About Apprentice Program
The Council of Industry is pleased to lead the New York State Manufacturers Alliance Intermediary Apprenticeship Program (NYSMIAP) in the Hudson Valley. A New York State Department of Labor recognized program. The basic components of our apprenticeship program are the same today as the ones set forth in 1937 when the National Apprenticeship Act that laid the foundation for apprenticeships in the United States.
Apprentices enter into a structured training program of paid on-the-job training under the guidance of a mentor, along with some classroom or online training. As their skills increase, so do their wages. Upon completion of the program, apprentices earn an industry-recognized credential issued by New York Stater.
On the Job Training
Registered apprentices will receive up to 8,000 hours of on-the-job training. Seasoned journey-level workers will provide this training. Detailed work processes are designed to give the apprentice a holistic understanding of the trade and an advanced tactical skill set.
Related Instruction
Each apprentice must complete 144 hours of outside training each year. This training is generally a combination of online and in-classroom training. The Council of Industry has partnered with Tooling U and our local community colleges to create and support customized training designed to meet the apprenticeship requirements.

About the Council of Industry
The Council of Industry has been the manufacturer’s association of the Hudson Valley since 1910. We are a privately funded not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to promote the success of our member firms and their employees, and through them contribute to the success of the Hudson Valley Community.
Some of the programs and services we provide to our members include incumbent worker training and development (such as Lean Six Sigma Training, Leadership Development, and Strategic Management) support for regulatory and legislative compliance, professional networks and advocacy. We also publish the HV MFG Magazine to build awareness of the important role manufacturing plays in the Hudson Valley region.
Perhaps our most important role in support of our members is to help them close the manufacturing skills gap and build the workforce of the today and the future. That is the impetus behind GoMakeIt.
